Mobile App¶
The QuietNet mobile app includes a PIN lock feature for Child Mode. It prevents your child from turning off protection, switching to a different profile, or signing out of the app.
Setting Up a PIN¶
- Open the QuietNet app on your child's device
- Go to Parental Controls
- Tap Set Up PIN
- Enter a 4-digit PIN
- Re-enter the PIN to confirm
Your PIN is securely stored on the device and is never saved in plain text.
Remember your PIN
There is no recovery option for a forgotten PIN. If you forget it, you'll need to reinstall the app.
What the PIN Protects¶
Once set, these actions will require the PIN:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Turn off protection | Stopping the VPN connection on the dashboard |
| Switch profiles | Changing to a different DNS profile |
| Stop VPN | Disabling VPN protection from setup |
| Sign out | Logging out of the app |
| Change PIN | Setting a new PIN |
| Remove PIN | Disabling PIN lock entirely |
5-Minute Unlock Window¶
To save you from entering the PIN repeatedly, the app gives you a 5-minute window after each successful PIN entry:
- You enter the correct PIN for any protected action
- For the next 5 minutes, all protected actions are allowed without the PIN
- After 5 minutes, the next protected action will ask for the PIN again
This means you can make several changes in a row without re-entering the PIN each time.
Tamper Protection (Android)¶
On Android, if your child installs another VPN app that takes over the connection (which would bypass QuietNet's filtering), the app automatically reconnects when PIN lock is active.
This prevents children from getting around protection by using a different VPN app.
Android only
This automatic reconnection feature is specific to Android. On iOS, this scenario is handled differently by the operating system.
Changing Your PIN¶
- Go to Parental Controls
- Tap Change PIN
- Enter your current PIN
- Enter and confirm a new PIN
Removing PIN Lock¶
- Go to Parental Controls
- Tap Disable
- Enter your current PIN to confirm
Set up the PIN on your child's device
The PIN only applies to the device it's set up on. Set it up directly on your child's device — your own device doesn't need one (unless you share it).
